JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for replacing or repairing shoes on horses where necessary prior to them leaving the paddock for racing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, the duties may include but are not limited to:
- Removes worn or defective shoe from hoof.
- Trims, shapes and measures hoof.
- Selects aluminum or steel shoe from stock according to hoof measurements and animal usage.
- Places leather pad, sponge, or oakum-pine tar mixture on bruised or cracked hoof for protection.
- Shapes shoe to fit hoof.
- Nails shoe to hoof and files hoof flush with shoe.
Basic job requirements include:
- Up to two years related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Displays willingness to make decisions and exhibit sound and accurate judgment.
- Supports and explains reasoning for decisions.

- Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness.
