Courtly Choice wins Meadowlands Pace

July 14, 2018

MILTON, July 14, 2018 – Courtly Choice gave local trainer Blake MacIntosh the thrill of his career by winning the $700,000+ Meadowlands Pace on Saturday evening in New Jersey.

Co-owned by Canadians Mac & Heim Stables, Daniel Plouffe and Touch Stone Farms, Courtly Choice got a second-over trip from driver David Miller and powered to a career-best 1:47.1 victory

Luck had not been on the side of Courtly Choice during the early stages of the stakes season, as the MacIntosh trainee failed to make the finals of the Pepsi North America Cup and Max Hempt Memorial. However, the speedy son of Art Major came back in both events to win the consolations in impressive fashion.

A $60,000+ supplement to the Meadowlands Pace, Courtly Choice is now six for eight this season with more than $470,000 earned. His career numbers jump to eight wins and $524,511.

The “Pace” victory is the biggest win of trainer MacIntosh’s career. The Cambridge, Ontario trainer debuted his talented pacer in Mohawk Baby Races on June 10, 2017 and has seen him post multiple victories at Woodbine.

Local connections took home a big chunk of the Meadowlands Pace purse.

Stay Hungry, co-owned by Woodbine’s leading owner Brad Grant, finished third with Canada’s top driver Doug McNair in the bike. Ontario Sires Stakes star Jimmy Freight was supplemented by owner Adriano Sorella of Milton, Ontario and finished fourth with Louis Philippe Roy steering.

The Meadowlands Pace undercard also saw Casie Coleman trainee McWicked capture the $471,100 William Haughton Memorial.

Coleman noted post-race that McWicked may race in the Woodbine Preferred in a few weeks as a tune-up for the Sam McKee Memorial, to be contested on Hambletonian Day.
