Award of Merit for Tom Cosgrove

​TORONTO, September 10 – Tom Cosgrove, a long-time member of the horse racing industry in a variety of capacities, was honoured on Sunday with the Toronto Thoroughbred Racing Club’s Award of Merit.

The Toronto Thoroughbred Racing Club (TTRC) has promoted horse racing in Ontario for nearly 60 years and this year chose to recognize Cosgrove with the Award of Merit for a lifetime of service to the Thoroughbred racing industry.
Cosgrove joins a long list of racing greats that includes Sandy Hawley, Jean Louis Levesque, Avelino Gomez, Frank Merrill, Lou Cavalaris, Ron Turcotte, Frank Stronach, Reade Baker, Dan Loiselle, Bill Tallon, Shawn Kennedy and Jim Bannon.
"Tom is a most worthy individual who has dedicated his life to Thoroughbred racing in general and also has a great interest in Standardbred racing," said Bannon who presented the award with the assistance of Baker, Kennedy and TTRC president Sam Lima.
"In his fifty plus years of working here at Woodbine as an accomplished horseperson and as an executive, Tom Cosgrove exemplifies what it is to be a leader in this industry and a friend of the sport," said Bannon.
Cosgrove, a former trainer and director of racing at Woodbine, currently serves the racing industry as the Chair of both the Nomination and Election Committees for the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame and has spent a lifetime working in the sport.
"I want to thank Sam Lima and the directors of the Toronto Thoroughbred Racing Club for this most wonderful honour," said Cosgrove. "I also want to thank everyone that has helped me over the years in this industry. I’ve been very blessed to work alongside great horses and great people and for that I am forever grateful."
