Outstanding Groom Award winner and Media Finalists announced for 2018 Sovereign Awards

TORONTO, February 20, 2019 – The Jockey Club of Canada has announced that Amanda Erwin has been chosen as the recipient of 2018 Outstanding Groom Award. Erwin has worked for Triple Crown winning trainer Mike Keogh for over 17 years. She groomed Champion Woodcarver, the winner of the 1999 Queen’s Plate as well as the 2003 Triple Crown winner and Champion Wando, both owned and bred by Gustav Schickedanz.

The Jockey Club of Canada also announced the finalists for the 2018 Sovereign Award Media categories. The judging for the 2018 Media Sovereign Award categories was performed by Professors of the Journalism Program at the School of Media Studies & Information Technology, Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

  • Dave Briggs – Horse of the Year Pink Lloyd: A Hero for Our Times
  • Chris Lomon – Born to Beat the Odds
  • Hayley Morrison – Hail to the War Horses

Digital Audio/visual and Broadcast Category:

  • Horse Racing Alberta – Canadian Derby Homegrown Heroes
  • Horse Racing Radio Network – 159th Queen’s Plate
  • Woodbine Entertainment Group – Ricoh Woodbine Mile

The Jockey Club of Canada will announce the winners of all the Sovereign Awards at the 44th Annual Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 18, 2019.

Tickets to the 44th Annual Sovereign Awards Ceremony are $250 each, with tables of 10 discounted to $2,000. Early-Bird tickets are also available for a discounted price of $225 until March 15, 2019.
