Speedy River ready to make noise in Saturday’s My Dear Stakes

July 13, 2022

TORONTO, July 13, 2022 – An opportunity at early stakes glory will be up for grabs in Saturday’s $125,000 My Dear Stakes for two-year-old fillies at Woodbine Racetrack.

A field of five will travel 5 ½ furlongs on the Woodbine Tapeta in Saturday’s feature race.

All but one of the competitors has made their pari-mutuel debut, including Mike De Paulo trainee Speedy River, who won her debut by 3 ½ lengths on June 18 over the Woodbine Tapeta.

“She ran a real good race. She’s very quick,” said De Paulo of Speedy River. “Mike Cook (Classic Mile) had her in Florida and sent her up to us in great shape and it’s been onwards and upwards from there.”

Leaving from post four in Saturday’s $125,000 event, Speedy River will look for an encore of her June 18 effort. The youngster has shown her trainer quickly that she knows when the money is on the line.

“Her works were pretty decent ahead of that first race,” noted De Paulo. “It’s funny because I worked her with a couple of others, and she finished third, but she was the one that won.”

A daughter of Souper Speedy, Speedy River was bred by Tall Oaks Farm and races for its owner Ivan Dalos. Luis Contreras will again be in the irons for Saturday’s bout.

All four fillies in the My Dear with at least a start under their belt have already visited the winner’s circle, which sets up an intriguing matchup.

De Paulo is pleased with Speedy River heading into Saturday’s race and knows she will bring a loud effort, even if that’s not her style in the barn.

“You wouldn’t know she’s in the barn. She just does her own thing,” remarked De Paulo. “She had a nice breeze the other day. She’s got some pump, that’s for sure. She tries.”

The My Dear is slated as Race 8 on Saturday’s ten-race card. First post time is 1:00 p.m. Fans can watch and wager on all the action via HPIbet.com or the Dark Horse Bets app.
