In a bit of a stop-start performance, newcomer Delamar battled on gamely the length of the stretch when beaten three parts of a length by Ladies Night. The KY-bred 2YO filly appeared keen to run early, fighting against the rider, putting away Gossip Isle and Josephine, only to be run down in the final strides of the 6-1/2f. Since this race was taken off the turf, there is every indication that trainer Roger Attfield thinks Delamar is suited to the grass. Her first out second on Tapeta, in which she was the biggest mover in the betting, makes her viable for both surfaces. A well-bred daughter by Into Mischief from an Unbridled’s Song dam, Delamar possesses natural speed and could be long gone next out.

Despite an awkward break, first-time starter Aheadbyacentury was seen doing his best work in the final 1/16M of the 5-1/2f Clarendon Stakes won by Be Vewy Vewy Quiet. The track appeared to be favouring speed all day, putting the 2YO in a tough spot for his debut given his position at the back of the field early. After switching course down the lane, Aheadbyacentury gained steadily to get within a length of runner-up Eskiminzin and looks sure to appreciate added distance next time out.
