Job Summary:
The Commercial Partner – Racing and Wagering Strategy will play a pivotal role in aligning Woodbine’s racing operations with its wagering growth strategy — driving measurable impact on handle, customer engagement, and the overall commercial performance of the racing product.
Reporting to the Director, Simulcast & Wagering Distribution, this role will serve as the critical link between Woodbine’s racing offices, wagering operations, and commercial strategy teams, ensuring that racing decisions — from scheduling and conditions to field composition and race formats — are optimized for wagering appeal and customer value.
The role will be responsible for embedding a commercial mindset within our racing operations departments, leveraging data-driven insights, process improvements, and extensive collaboration with internal and external partners to create a more agile, market-responsive, and player-focused racing product while dealing with the effective limitations of the product. The role is central to driving change, modernizing race office workflows, and translating operational excellence into tangible wagering growth and revenue outcomes.
Key Accountabilities:
Build and execute commercial plans that directly connect racing office activities with wagering performance. Identify and design new race formats, series, or scheduling strategies that maximize field competitiveness and betting appeal. Establish commercial frameworks that link operational decision-making (entries, stakes programming, etc.) with customer demand and wagering data insights.
Partner with the racing offices and data analytics teams to evaluate handle drivers such as field size, pool dynamics, and bettor preferences. Use advanced data modeling and historical performance analytics to guide condition book design, purse allocation, and race timing decisions
Act as the wagering department’s commercial representative within cross-functional initiatives that influence racing. Collaborate with global racing partners and racing technology providers to define best in market examples and deliver insights and capabilities to our race office.
Oversee and grow commercial relationships that enhance the racing product’s market presence and revenue streams. Identify co-branded racing opportunities and cross-promotional programs with wagering partners and industry stakeholders.
Define and monitor key commercial and wagering performance metrics across the racing portfolio. Provide insights on handle performance, return on race programming, and campaign effectiveness. Deliver clear reporting and recommendations that guide leadership decisions on race planning, marketing investments, and resource prioritization.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Sports Management, or related field.
Advanced knowledge of Horse Racing, pari-mutuel wagering, and racing product economics required
Equivalent experience in racing operations, wagering strategy, or commercial planning may substitute formal education.
Frequent need for creative problem-solving in product development, promotions, and partnership structuring.
Working Conditions:
Occasional travel and weekend work during peak racing seasons may be required.
Office and racetrack environments; exposure to outdoor conditions during live racing events
Reason for vacancy: New position
Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000
