JOB SUMMARY
 
Reporting to the Manager, Live Broadcast Operations, this position is responsible for the setup and live operation of broadcast equipment, including any or all of the following: audio mixers and supporting audio equipment; digital video player/recorders (VTR) and supporting equipment; character generators and graphics systems; cameras and supporting camera equipment for the production of television programming, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness and consistency in delivery of the broadcast product.  This position specifically operates in a “relief” role to the Thoroughbred Simulcast Crew to back-fill those in any of the below designated positions.  This includes back-filling up to the level of the Simulcast Producer.  This position is based at Woodbine but may require shifts at our Woodbine Mohawk Park location.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, AUDIO:
 
·         Lead by example, to exhibit, encourage and motivate WEG’s Values and Beliefs
·         Operation of audio mixer(s) and equipment as directed by production staff
·         Microphone and audio source setup and operation
·         Intercom operation
·         Music and sound effects playback
·         Monitoring of incoming audio sources and ensuring proper signal quality, signal path and timely routing to air
·         Audio signal patching
·         Crew assistance as required
 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, VIDEO PLAYBACK & RECORD (VTR):


·         Lead by example, to exhibit, encourage and motivate WEG’s Values and Beliefs
·         Operation of digital video recording and playback equipment as directed by production staff
·         Video/audio router operation
·         Intercom operation
·         Timely routing, playback and record of video and audio signals
·         Monitoring of incoming audio and video sources and ensuring proper signal quality and timing
·         Video archive retrieval and storage input, including accurate data entry
·         Operation of LED screen controls for graphics and video playback
·         Crew assistance as required
 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, CHARACTER GENERATOR/GRAPHICS:


·         Lead by example, to exhibit, encourage and motivate WEG’s Values and Beliefs
·         Operation of character generator and graphics equipment as directed by production staff
·         Accurate data entry, formatting and playback
·         Intercom operation
·         Monitoring and control of manual and automatic on-screen data display systems
·         Graphic and animation input and playback
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, CAMERA:
 
·         Lead by example, to exhibit, encourage and motivate WEG’s Values and Beliefs
·         Operation of tripod-mounted and handheld cameras as directed by production staff
·         Operation of big lens cameras with handlebar controls as directed by production staff
·         Framing and composition of shots
·         White balance, focus and iris control to ensure quality of video signal
·         Field patching and cabling
·         Field microphone operation
·         Operation of radio frequency (RF) transmitters, receivers and antennae
 
 
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
 
Knowledge
·         General knowledge of television production
·         Advanced knowledge of broadcast equipment operation
·         General knowledge of horse racing and how it applies in a broadcast environment
 
 
Skills
·         General computer skills in a Windows-based software applications environment
·         General organizational skills
·         General verbal and written communication skills
·         General problem solving/trouble shooting skills
·         Ability to work in a high-pressure, face-paced environment
 
 
Education and Experience
·         Post-secondary diploma or certificate in television production, or equivalent experience, and production experience in a control room and/or field production setting
 
Working Conditions
·         Normal office or control room environment, with little physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like (control room positions)
·         Normal outdoor racetrack environment where there may be temperature, weather, noise and crowd to deal with
·         Regular interruptions and multiple demands.
·         Normally requires standing and walking for up to 50% of the time, and occasionally for extended periods of time during special events.
·         Ability to get to both of Woodbine Entertainment’s track locations (Woodbine or Mohawk) at any time
·         Requires concentration and restriction to location during times of specific tasks such as race broadcasts.
