JOB SUMMARY
 
Accurately and efficiently process weekly and biweekly payrolls within established timelines. Adhere to legislative and taxation requirements and abide by Collective Agreements and Company Policies where necessary.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Accurate and timely processing of Hourly and Salary payrolls including off cycle as required. Ensure compliance is always maintained by following government regulations, company policies and collective agreement requirements. Uphold a high degree of customer service to stakeholders across the organization.
 
Sign off Kronos timecards for pay period being processed. Perform reconciliation between data integration and interface into Peoplesoft. Review timecards approved by Operations for any daily hours in excess of 12 hours.
 
Investigate and resolve any payroll issues or discrepancies.
 
Issue stop payments and/or deposit recalls as required.
 
Provide back up during other team member absences.
 
Run weekly ROE process. Review the generated ROE’s and insurable earnings to ensure all information to be reported is accurate. Upload to Service Canada via ROE Web.
 
Run weekly GL interface process in PeopleSoft. Upload Payroll and Benefit GL interfaces to Microsoft d365 according to Finance schedule.
 
Prepare all Journal entries for the month according to Finance schedule.
 
Reconcile Payroll balance sheet accounts monthly and sign off in RTA tool.
 
Prepare government remittances according to payment schedule. This includes CRA, EHT, WSIB and garnishments.
 
Prepare monthly remittances for all union due deductions. This includes providing any required reports to the union.
 
Prepare monthly remittance for SOBEN health and welfare.
 
Participate in periodic payroll testing as required.
 
Participate in year-end preparation including reconciliation, balancing of T4’s, T2200 and government filing.
 
Participate in Peoplesoft testing such as system upgrades, interface testing, roll out of new processes as required. Create and maintain scenario spreadsheet.
 
Update payroll procedure documents as required.
 
Provide support with special projects as they arise.


Key Success Factors

  • Minimum 3-5 years of Canadian Payroll experience working in a mid to large size organization with operations in Ontario.  This includes minimum 2 years exposure in a union and non-union environment
  • PCP certification an asset
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and taxation rules 
  • Solid working knowledge of PeopleSoft version 9.2, specifically module Payroll for NA
  • Working knowledge of Kronos Workforce Dimensions or similar time keeping system 
  • General knowledge of accounting principles
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, including Outlook, Excel, Word
