Our Values & Beliefs

Ontario Racing Management (ORM) is a wholly owned subsidy of Woodbine Entertainment, Canada’s horse racing and entertainment leader. Together with an industry-representative Board of Directors, ORM leads the Ontario horse racing industry towards sustainability. The General Accountant plays a vital role in carrying out this strategic imperative. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, the General Accountant is responsible for assisting the Finance function (including monitoring and enforcing controls) and helping to lead the team. 


  • Planning and Forecasting
  • Assist with the month-end accounting close process through the preparation of and critical analysis of monthly corporate financial statements/results.
  • Support, all corporate statutory payments and filing requirements including, but not limited to, corporate income tax, commodity taxes, and corporate payroll taxes.
  • Apply contractual obligations in day-to-day activities (use the contract as a foundation to establish processes).
  • Assist in planning, developing, managing and forecasting the Program budgets, including cash management and ensuring all vendor relationships are managed effectively.
  • Prepare regulatory compliance reports, including pro forma financials, budget-to-actual statements, cash flow statements, business plan action items, compliance attestations.
  • Support the quality assurance reviews of the financials received from racetracks and validate that they meet the obligation requirements.
  • Work with association members to produce accurate reports, projections and business plans as well as additional reporting requirements as they are developed.
  • Additional duties or special projects as required by the business.

  • General Ledger
  • Prepare and enter all monthly journal entries for three different programs in D365.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations for all Balance Sheet accounts to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
  • Analyze financial statements for discrepancies.
  • Review all inter-company transactions and generate invoices as necessary.
  • Assist with annual audits.
  • Review and approve the invoice and general journals have been posted by AP specialist.
  • Prepare and enter all monthly bank transactions for all bank accounts of ORM.
  • Reconcile all the GLs for month end, quarter end and year end closing.
  • Prepare and file HST reports.
  • Conduct regular ledger maintenance.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for approval of the Senior Manager, HIP Administration & Governance.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the payroll processes and Payroll Journal entry to the system.


  • University or college degree/diploma in a field related to Business Administration/Management, Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Analysis and/or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • Minimum two years of finance experience.
  • Strong focus on accounting, operational review, financial analysis and reporting, assessment and development of business processes.
  • Willingness to learn about the horse racing and breeding industry, including the revenue streams that support the sustainability of the industry is an asset.
  • Expert in spreadsheets, databases, MS Office, business analysis tools and financial software applications (experience with MS D365 is an asset)
  • Advanced business planning and operations knowledge, including business planning cycles, budget planning, resource allocation, and financial management.
  • Advanced change management skills required to develop comprehensive strategic plans that focus on the financial improvement of the company while maintaining alignment of the operations with the goals and values of the organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven ability to understand trends and develop recommendations.
  • Strong ability to implement financial controls.
  • Must be a hands-on self starter and team player.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication, presentation and reporting skills.
