For the Love of Horse Racing: Woodbine’s Community Impact

Woodbine Cares: For the Love of Horse Racing
By investing in equine welfare and aftercare and supporting the dedicated employees of the horse racing industry, we can help foster a prosperous and sustainable future for horse racing. We are committed to the well-being of retired racehorses and the advancement of the people who make this industry thrive, ensuring a legacy of excellence, compassion, and community, all under the umbrella of our philanthropic arm, Woodbine Cares.
Ways we support.
Woodbine Cares proudly supports horse aftercare through our dedicated partners: the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society, and the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society. Once a horse’s racing career is completed, these organizations assist with rehoming, adoption, and helping find new careers for retired horses.

Woodbine Cares is dedicated to supporting initiatives that foster a deep appreciation for horses and highlight the invaluable contributions they make to our racing community. Whether it’s encouraging people to engage with horses, learn about them, or care for them, we enthusiastically support programs that celebrate our bond with these magnificent animals.
We invite charitable organizations across Ontario focused on equine welfare to apply for our grants. For more information on eligibility and grant application timing, please click here.

Woodbine Entertainment is proud to sponsor two student scholarships at neighbouring Humber Polytechnic. The $100,000 in scholarship funding is being delivered in $20,000 increments over five years, supporting a total of four students annually. It brings the total of funding from Woodbine to Humber to $500,000 over the last 30 years.
The Woodbine Entertainment Security Leadership Scholarships ($5,000 x2) and The Woodbine Entertainment Broadcasting Leadership Scholarships ($5,000 x2) will recognize students in their final year of study who self-identify as female and have demonstrated passion, aptitude, and leadership in their course work.

At 20,000 square feet, the Woodbine Cares Community Garden is one of the largest corporate community gardens in Canada. The garden provides over 3,000 pounds of fresh food annually, much of which is donated to community groups and backstretch workers.
We are deeply committed to nurturing and preserving the environment and we take our role as stewards of the land seriously. In addition to making a positive impact on food security locally, the garden also contributes to a neighborhood pollination network, supporting the long-term health of the food chain and fostering ecological balance.

Recognized as an Imagine Canada Caring Company since 1997, Woodbine Entertainment is a proud member of this national program that fosters excellence and leadership in corporate citizenship.
Caring companies donate at least 1% of pre-tax profits to supporting communities.
