MILTON, September 18, 2021 – Ahundreddollarbill cashed in on a perfect trip and confident drive to take the $606,500 Canadian Trotting Classic on Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Trained by Tony Alagna, the three-year-old son of Chapter Seven-Swinging Royalty added another chapter to his impressive career after a storybook ending in one of North America’s top races for sophomore trotters. After a narrow loss at Tioga Downs on August 21 and then scratched from the NYSS final on September 10 due to sickness, there were some question marks surrounding the bay ahead of tonight’s big race. Ahundreddollarbill delivered an emphatic answer under the lights on a picture-perfect night. It was Winning Ticket, undefeated in 10 starts this year, who glided to the lead from post 10, as In Range, On A Streak and 4-5 choice Fashion Frenzie, the Goodtimes final champ in search of his fourth straight score, picked up the pursuit after an opening quarter of :26.3. Winning Ticket, in rein to David Miller, continued to set the tempo, as Louis-Philippe Roy had Fashion Frenzie on the move, with Ahundreddollarbill and Andrew McCarthy following suit. After a half in :55.2 and three-quarters in 1:23.2, Fashion Frenzie, Ahundreddollarbill and In Range began to cut into the lead of Winning Ticket, with Ahundreddollarbill eventually seizing control mid-stretch and driving on to notch a 1 ½-length triumph. The final time was a blistering 1:52-flat. Ahundreddollarbill returned $10.90 for the win. In Range was second, Winning Ticket finished third and Fashion Frenzie fourth. “I am so excited for Tony and the Crawfords,” said Donna Lee. “I love this horse. I’ve only had him like, less than a week but what a great horse. I just love him. He’s so nice to be around, loves to be on the track, I’m so happy for them all.” McCarthy, who teamed with Abuckabett Hanover to take the Simcoe Stakes one race earlier, was thrilled to see his charge back in winning form. “This year I really thought I had the best horse in the race. He’s had a little time off and obviously we talked about him unfortunately tying up before the New York Sire Stakes final, but I went second trip with him tonight and he was slick as an eel, so I thought I was in a pretty good spot tonight. “This horse has been racing mainly on half mile tracks most of the year, and it’s kind of crazy not to send him on the halves, but he is a lot better with a trip. He relaxes well and races great off the helmet so I kind of wanted to work out a second over trip tonight if I could, but we were still trying to just find someone to follow and we ended up getting the right one.” Ahundreddollarbill’s strong three-year-old campaign has included multiple track records over various tracks throughout New York. Bred by Jonas Schlabach, the gelding, owned by Crawford Farms Racing and James Crawford, now has eight wins from 10 starts on the season and 10 wins from 16 career races. Share This:Share
