September 6, 2010 The Jim Takter trainee, Costa Rica survived a first-over trip for driver Ron Pierce to capture the single $239,786 division of the Simcoe Stakes for three-year-old trotting fillies. Poof Shes Gone (David Miller) left the gate from post seven and established first quarter speed of :26.4 with Wilsonator (Sylvain Filion) settling away in second. The daughter of Kadabra then enjoyed a :30 breather and took her 11 rivals past the half in :56.4. Pierce and Costa Rica then used a first-over attack on Poof Shes Gone as the field went by the three-quarters in 1:25.3. Down the stretch, Poof Shes Gone faded early in the stretch while Costa Rica took over command and held off a late challenge from Bramalea Hanover (Steve Condren) to be victorious in 1:54.3. Bramalea Hanover was second and Wilsonater finished third after enjoying a pocket trip. "The fractions worked out in our favour. I could see Dave’s filly (Poof Shes Gone) wasn’t as sharp as she could of been. She’s all heart this filly; if you look at her there isn’t anything special about the way she looks," Pierce commented in the winners circle. "She always gives 110% that’s why she has won so much money. Jimmy (Takter) had his problems with her earlier in the year and that cost us a lot of money. She has had throat problems but she still isn’t 100% but Jimmy is getting her better." The daughter of Muscles Yankee – Examination now has career earnings of $1,227,522 for owner Christiana Takter and John & Jim Fielding. Share This:Share
