MILTON, July 27, 2018 – Firebby took care of business as the even-money favourite in Friday’s $30,000 Mares Preferred at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The six-year-old Australian bred and driver Louis Philippe Roy shot out to the lead in a field of six and proceeded to call all the shots en route to a 1:53.4 score. Firebby posted soft panels of :29, :57.4 and 1:26 before firing home in :27.4 over the “off” track to win. Bettors Up rallied from last with a :26.4 kicker to make things interesting, finishing second beat a neck. Sandbetweenurtoes finished third, while Artistic Madison was fourth. Trained by Ron Adams, Firebby had been held winless in her last four starts, with her most recent victory coming in her Woodbine debut on June 1. Firebby is now five for nine since coming to North America this season. She was purchased privately by current owners David Kryway and Adams following her third start in North America. The new connections supplemented the daughter of Courage Under Fire to the Roses Are Red Stakes following her June 1 victory and saw their new acquisition finish fifth in the $370,000 final. Firebby paid $4.20 to win Friday. Live racing continues Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Post time is 7:30 p.m. Share This:Share
