CAMPBELLVILLE, August 31 – This weekly feature offers a look back at the best Standardbred races and performances of the week at Mohawk.

A NEW MARK

#5 – Saturday, August 27; Race 10; Canadian Pacing Derby elim – In a 20-1 upset, Atochia won his $50,000 CPD elimination for trainer Ron Burke.  The six-year-old gelding also took a new lifetime mark in the process, stopping the teletimer in 1:49. He paid $42.70 to win as the upsetter.

JUST IN TIME

#4 – Saturday, August 27; Race 4; Metro elim – Speed Again dug in to score the victory in his Metro elimination. Driver Jody Jamieson and the Jeff Gillis pupil used a :26.2 final quarter to find the winner’s circle.

HE WILL BE BACK

#3 – Saturday, August 27; Race 2; Metro elim – The Bob McIntosh trainee D Terminata captured his $40,000 Metro elim with driver Randy Waples at the helm. The bay gelding paced his final quarter in :26.3 with a final time of 1:51.2. He paid $8.90 to win.

FAST ‘AMERICAN’ MUSCLE

#2 – Saturday, August 27; Race 3; Shes A Great Lady elim – In a world record equalling performance for two-year-old fillies, American Jewel delivered as the 1-9 favourite, getting under the wire in 1:50.3 for trainer Jimmy Takter. With Tim Tetrick in the sulky for her Shes A Great Lady elimination, the freshman has a perfect five-for-five record.

THE QUICK STEP

#1 – Saturday, August 27; Race 6; Metro elim – A Rocknroll Dance lowered the track record while equalling the world record for two-year-old pacers with a 1:49.1 performance in his Metro elimination. The James Mulinix-trained and Ron Pierce-driven colt pulled off a 20-1 shocker in the process. He paid $42.70 to win.
