January 15, 2011 Woodbine Racetrack will present a $40,000 guaranteed pool for its early Pick-4 Saturday evening. The Pick-4 will kick off as usual in Race 4. Greg Gangle of the Woodbine Entertainment Group’s media department has handicapped the four races and has provided his following insight: Ticket Summary: Race 4 – 1, 2, 4, 7 Race 5 – 5, 10 Race 6 – 1, 3, 6, 7 Race 7 – 1, 6, 7 Total – $96 for $1, or $16.20 for $19.20 Race 4 #1. Keystone Raptor – Hasn’t raced since his costly break in the OSS Super Final on November 13. He has two scratches before a pair of qualifiers which tells me that he has health or lameness issues. He should offer a nice price and has post 1, so Moiseyev can dictate what sort of trip he will provide. #2. Cuzzin Sid – Finished seventh in his most recent start but did pace a :54.2 back-half. He was off 13-lenghts at the half and was only beaten five. A post 2 start this week should also increase his chances to find the winners circle. #4. St Pete Star – Scored a victory in his most recent start at a lower class. He hasn’t raced since Dec. 26 and is moving up in class tonight, but I think he can handle the challenge. He doesn’t show the best gate-speed which is a disadvantage but does show great late speed. I hope Hudon doesn’t get away too far back. #7. Ultra Jimmy – Comes out of the claiming ranks tonight for trainer Tony Montini. I’d like to see him forwardly placed in tonight’s event. He shows consisten miles in the 1:52-range, which should make him a top contender. Race 5 #5. Whippet Good – Posted 7 wins last year which has to be taken into consideration. He has drawn a much better post compared to his last two starts. He has posted numerous victories at a higher class and should be able to handle this field tonight. #10. Kindly Poet – Gets major class relief tonight despite a post 10 start. Zeron will likely not take back and look to position him mid-pack or near the front. He will likely be the bettors choice come post time but he is beatable. This race will all depend on the trip, I don’t think Kindly Poet is a standout but you must have him in your Pick-4 ticket. Race 6 #1. Corkemup – Returns to this claiming level after posting a victory last week at this level. He has drawn post 1 and trotted a :56.2 back-half last week from off-the-pace. That same type of trip will likely be doable again tonight for Saftic. #3. Express Glide – Couldn’t catch Corkmeup last week but wasn;t beaten by much to finish third. Baillargeon was the favourite last week and will likely use off-the-pace tactics again tonight. I hope Baillargeon doesn’t get positioned too far back, Woodbine favours front-end speed. #6. Think Gold – Is moving up in class after scoring an open-length victory last week. MacDonald will likely leave with him tonight like he did last week. He has won at this level before and he’s coming into this race in fine form. #7. Logans Hero – Will likely be the post time favourite after posting three victories in his last five starts. He shows terrific gate-speed which will likely come into effect tonight. He will likely be on top of close to it. He has won at this level before and certainly can do it again tonight. Race 7 #1. Bordeauxs Best – Is my longshot pick of the night. I’m not sure what happened in his most recent start but prior to that he has been very competitive. Jamieson elected to drive him over Rock Me Mastreos (6-1 morning line). He has post one and shows terrific off-the-pace speed. He could be the sleeper in this race. #6. Fitzs Z Tam – Has been terrific for trainer Kevin McMaster other than his last start. He has post 9 and simply had no racing luck. He has won three times at this level prior to tonight so he’s certainly capable of scoring the victory. #7. Little Gold Ring – Returns to this circuit after a fourth place finish at Western Fair. He won at this level a few starts ago and usually races from off-the-pace. I’m not sure if he can handle his rivals tonight but should offer a valid price. Share This:Share
