MILTON, September 17 — Driver Dave Miller had When Dovescry on the point early, yielded for a pocket trip up the backside and emerged off the final turn with a powerful stretch kick to take the $233,000 Armbro Flight final on Friday (Sept. 17) at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Miller motored When Dovescry off the car to lead Sorella past a :27.2 first quarter with Hypnotic AM sitting third and Atlanta positioned fourth. Hypnotic AM swung off the pegs on the spin into the backside and swept by When Dovescry to take control moving to a :56 half. Meanwhile Manchego, the even-money favourite, raced wide from sixth attempting to grab cover until Atlanta flushed first over out of fourth. Hypnotic AM held her ground into the final turn as she accelerated to three-quarters in 1:23.3, all while When Dovescry began to pull out of the pocket and press the leader to the bottom of the turn, where Manchego lost stride. When Dovescry kept digging into Hypnotic AM through the stretch, and the leg-weary temposetter soon relinquished the lead. Sorella swerved off the pegs towards the center of the track to take a late shot at When Dovescry, but the Brett Pelling trainee stayed firm to the beam to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:51. Atlanta settled for third while Hypnotic AM faded to fourth. “It worked out pretty much like I was hoping,” David Miller said after the race. “She’s pretty handy off the gate. She can cut it out early [but] I was planning tonight on getting her covered up… I don’t know, she felt really strong tonight so I moved her maybe a little early. But it worked out. She just raced awesome.” With the win in the Armbro Flight, When Dovescry has now won five races from 10 starts this season and 17 from 40 overall. John Lengacher owns the five-year-old Muscle Hill mare who pushed her bankroll to $1,452,437. Sent the 3-1 second choice, When Dovescry paid $8.20 to win. Share This:Share
