Woodbine Entertainment welcomes new Gaming Service Provider to Woodbine Racetrack

August 8, 2017

TORONTO, August 8 – Woodbine Entertainment welcomes Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (Great Canadian) and Brookfield Business Partners LP (Brookfield) to Woodbine Racetrack following the announcement this morning by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

Great Canadian and Brookfield, in a newly formed partnership (Ontario Gaming GTA LP), were selected by OLG to run the Greater Toronto Area Gaming Bundle, which includes Woodbine, as part of the process to modernize the Province’s gaming operations.

Great Canadian and Brookfield plan to invest and develop the expanded gaming operations and entertainment amenities on a portion of the Woodbine property subject to the City of Toronto’s conditions imposed in the 2015 approval process.

“As part of our plan to continue an exciting future for horse racing in Canada, we look forward to working with Great Canadian and Brookfield as key partners in creating a world-class entertainment experience attracting people to Woodbine from across North America and beyond,” said Jim Lawson, CEO, Woodbine Entertainment. “Given each organization’s strong track record of world-class developments and operations, and partnerships in the community, this announcement will be the catalyst to develop the Woodbine Racetrack property into the future urban heart of northwest Toronto.”

The selection of Great Canadian and Brookfield by the OLG follows a series of important Woodbine Entertainment announcements in recent months including the unveiling of a master plan for the entire property and the vision for securing approximately 5,000 jobs currently onsite while creating a sustainable future for horse racing at Woodbine.

Woodbine’s privately owned 684-acre site will be transformed into a “city-within-a-city” creating jobs and economic development. Woodbine will continue to be the ultimate destination for horse racing and gaming, while integrating new expanded entertainment and cultural offerings, food and dining, hotel, shopping, employment, post-secondary education, recreation, health, wellness, and urban residential living. It will be an exhilarating place to live, work, and play all within a walkable community framework – a true next-generation neighbourhood with horse racing and entertainment at its core.
