Rexdale Summer Games return to Woodbine Racetrack

August 8, 2017
Toronto, August 10 – Woodbine Entertainment proudly welcomed participants, volunteers and special guests to Woodbine Racetrack for the third annual Rexdale Summer Games on Thursday, August 10, 2017.

The Rexdale Summer Games are hosted in partnership with the Rexdale Community Health Centre and Woodbine Entertainment. Now in its third year, the Rexdale Summer Games provides youth from several summer camps across Etobicoke with the opportunity to participate in an Olympic-style event, complete with opening ceremonies and plenty of action-packed friendly competition. Since first celebrating the games at Woodbine Racetrack three years ago, the event has grown significantly with more than 500 children between the ages of six and 12-years-old participating.

The opening ceremonies were attended by Deputy Mayor Vince Cristanti (City Councillor for Ward 1 – Etobicoke North) and Michael Ford (City Councillor for Ward 2 – Etobicoke North) both who took time to welcome the young competitors to the games with words of encouragement.

Woodbine Entertainment’s involvement goes beyond offering a facility for the games and also includes providing snacks and meals made by Woodbine’s industry-leading hospitality group, security for the games and additional volunteer support.

“The Rexdale Summer Games is one of our favourite ways to share Woodbine Racetrack with the local community,” said Jessica Buckley, VP, Community Relations & Corporate Affairs. “Together with Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer, the William Osler Walk N’ Roll event, as well as our Community Garden and Turf Races, it represents one of many chances to show the community all of the wonderful things that consistently happen at Woodbine Racetrack.”
