Woodbine Entertainment (Woodbine) is a proud corporate citizen that positively contributes to the vibrancy of the communities that it thrives in. Through its Woodbine Cares commitment, the company has achieved designations that affirm its corporate social responsibility such as Great Place to Work certification, NTRA Safety & Integrity Alliance accreditation, Caring Company Status, and are founding members of Partners in Project Green.
Annually, Woodbine recognizes the many valuable community organizations and causes that it supports through Woodbine Cares Week; a week-long celebration with special announcements, events and acknowledgements that demonstrate how the company and its community partners contribute so much to the life, health, and vibrancy of the neighbourhoods it operates in.
“We are fortunate to work with such a diverse group of community partners that have an immense impact on the horse racing industry and our communities,” said Jessica Buckley, President, Woodbine Mohawk Park. “While charitable acts occur all year long, Woodbine Cares Week is an ideal time to highlight the contributions of our employees and community partners.”
The week kicks off on September 9 with the employee and community partner focused, Turf Races, where individuals or teams compete in various races including a team relay, a kid race, a mascot race, as well as a race around the world-renowned E.P. Taylor Turf Course. This year, the invite-only event will raise funds for the Rexdale Community Health Centre.
2018 Charity Challenge
Also starting on September 9 is the $10,000.00 Charity Challenge where selected community partners garner votes through social media. This year, there are two groups, each with a $5000.00 donation for the charity that gets the most votes on www.WoodbineCares.ca before September 17. Previous year’s winners include Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation, Youth Without Shelter, Horizons for Youth and Pathways to Education.
Supporters are encouraged to vote and to share the charity of their choice on social media using the hashtag #WoodbineCares. To follow all the action throughout Woodbine Cares Week supporters can follow @WoodbineCares on Twitter for frequent updates and to engage with community partners. The winners of the 2018 Charity Challenge will be announced at the Volunteer Community Partner and Garden Celebration on September 19.
