Inside Track: February 28-March 1

March 2, 2026

Snow Problem At All

After a pair of runner-up efforts from three starts, Major Threat got on the board for the first time in 2026 with a hard-fought victory in the 11th and final race on Mohawk’s Saturday night program.

With driver Daryl Thiessen in tow, the 4-year-old son of All Bets Off–Hokie Spirit took control of the 10-horse tilt just ahead of three-quarters and held sway to reach the wire a neck clear.

Trained by Michael Kwietniowski for breeders/owners Tara Isman and Garett Isman, Major Threat is now 4-6-1 lifetime with $53,384 in the bank (22 starts).

At 4-1 on Saturday, he paid $10.90.

Challenge Accepted

In search of his first visit to the winner’s circle in five starts (January 11), Wildturkey Hanover proved that odds are just a number in the fifth dash on Mohawk’s Sunday evening card.

Sent off at 36-1, the 4-year-old son of Bar Hopping–Windsong Magic topped the field of nine with a spirited final quarter (:28.3) that vaulted him to the wire a head better than 3-1 rival Kadiddle.

Piloted by Phil Hudon for trainer Ron Waples Jr., who co-owns the bay trotter with Dr. Sheila Atmore, Wildturkey Hanover improved his overall scorecard to 6-8-5 with $154,266 in prizes across 40 starts.

He paid $75.30.

Stone-Cold Score

A smooth showing from Cold Creek Queso in Saturday’s fourth earned the Betterthancheddar bay his second trip to the winner’s circle this season.

Eager to bounce back after a fourth last time out, a motivated Cold Creek Queso hopped out to an early lead and never relented en route to a comfortable 2 ½-length decision with Jody Jamieson in the sulky.

Trained by Daniel Walker, who co-owns Cold Creek Standardbred with breeder Debora Stokes, the 7-year-old pacer improved his career slash line to 21-13-12 through 97 starts ($643,989).

As the 2-5 choice Saturday, Cold Creek Queso paid $3.10.
