Strong and powerful

After setting a career-best 1:51.2 mark in defeat on May 2, Avyanna delivered a new watermark of 1:51.1, this time in victory, on Saturday evening at Mohawk.

With driver Jody Jamieson in tow, the 5-year-old daughter of Roll With Joe–Saulsbrook Alana captured the sixth contest on Mohawk’s twelve-race program by 1 ¼ lengths for her 16th win from 51 lifetime starts (16-6-9; $287,333).

Trained by Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Famer Paul MacDonell for owners Hailee Currie and Carol Campbell, Avyanna (4-1) paid $10.10.

‘Major’ victory 

Major Perry N also rewrote his personal record book with a 1 ¾-length tally in 1:51 in the night’s 12th and final fixture.

The 8-year-old Art Major pacer oozed confidence under driver Billy Davis, Jr.’s command, leading every step of the way to pick up his third triumph through 15 starts (3-3-2) this season.

Owned by Ecurie Csl and trained by Jacques Dupont, Major Perry N now stands at 15-14-15 with $278,551 in prizes across 91 career starts.

At 17-1, the seventh choice in the field of 12, he paid $37.20.

Lightning bolt

Usain Hanover, with Louis-Philippe Roy in the race bike, trotted to a half-length score in Sunday evening’s Open Trot.

Sent off at 13-1, the Dave Menary trainee sat fifth at the half-mile mark before rallying down the lane for the 1:52.4 triumph, punctuated by a final panel trotted in :26.4.

With the win, the 5-year-old son of Bar Hopping is now 16-6-6- ($446,061) from 55 career starts.

Usain Hanover paid $29.10 for his latest trip to the winner’s circle.
