CAMPBELLVILLE, June 1 – This weekly feature offers a look back at the best Standardbred races and/or performances of the week at Mohawk.

#5 – Saturday, May 28; Race 5 – Many overlooked the Anthony MacDonald-driven Fire On The Water at the windows. From post 10, the 32-1 longshot got under the wire in 1:50.1 to win by four and a half lengths. The Steve Nichols trainee paid $67.90 to win.

#4 – Sunday, May 28; Race 7; Preferred Pace – The Kevin McMaster-trained Fitzs Z Tam made his first appearance in the Preferred a winning one as a 10-1 longshot. With Roger Mayotte at the helm, the four-year-old gelding went from sixth to first to win by a neck. The bay paid $22.80 to win, rounding out the final leg of the $75,000 guaranteed pool early Pick 4 that consisted of nothing but longshot winners. The early Pick 4 paid $46,875.

#3 – Tuesday, May 31; Race 9 – O’Brien Award winner, Blue Porsche, kicked off his sophomore campaign with a win. With Trevor Ritchie in the bike, the Blair Burgess pupil trotted his mile in a career-best clocking of 1:54. The son of Glidemaster won by one and quarter lengths with a :27 final panel as the 2-5 favourite. Click here to read more.

#2 – Monday, May 30; Race 5; O.S.S. Gold Final (3YOCT) – Daylon Magician captured the $130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final for three-year-old trotters for owner/trainer/breeder David Lemon. The bay got under the wire in a career-best and stakes equalling record of 1:53.2. Click here to read more.

#1 – Monday, May 30; Race 6 – N.A. Cup eligible, Betterthancheddar won his third lifetime start in a scorching 1:49.2 clocking for trainer Casie Coleman as the even money favourite. Brett Miller drove the sophomore colt home in a :26.3 final quarter, winning by 10 and three-quarter lengths over fellow N.A. Cup eligible, Roll On. Click here to read more.
