WEG’s Thursday Pick-4 Ticket (Jan. 20)

January 20, 2011

January 20. 2011

Woodbine Racetrack will present a $40,000 guaranteed pool for its early Pick-4 Thursday evening. The Pick-4 will kick off as usual in Race 4.

Greg Gangle of the Woodbine Entertainment Group’s media department has handicapped the four races and has provided his following insight:

Ticket Summary:

Race 4 – 1, 2, 6, 8

Race 5 – 1, 6, 10

Race 6 – 4, 6

Race 7 – 4, 6

Total – $48 for $1, or $9.60 for $.20

Race 4

#1. Dreaming – having her in my Pick-4 ticket is simply a guess. Our knowledge on her is very limited due to her racing debut being tonight. She is a chancy wager but I don’t see a standout in this event which will play to her favour.

#2. Windsun Soho – after making a break at the gate last start, he paced a solid final quarter of :27.3. I think tonight’s race will go around 1:56 and if that’s the case I think she’s the winner, given the right trip.

#6. Missmachrts – finished third at this level last week pacing in 1:56.1. Hudon returns to the bike tonight as she has been very consistent with her final quarter speed (:28). I’m looking for an improved effort tonight with a start under her belt.

#8. Rockabye Babe – I think she definetly shows enough speed and talent to win this contest, and should offer a nice price. She was a one time winner from five starts last year, winning in 1:56.2 at Flamboro Downs. Burgess had her staked heavily this past year so he obviously thinks enough of her.

Race 5

#1. Queenofthehall – was just a one time winner from 31 starts last year but has been knocking on the door lately at this level. She shows terrific front-end speed which will likely be used tonight. I would like to see her get covered up and hopefully shake loose at the top of the stretch.

#6. Pile Driver Jt – knows how to find the winners circle after celebrating five wins from 16 starts last year. Trainer Ed Hayter has been classifying her very correctly at this level and his charge has responded well. I think he’ll get more respect from the betting public tonight than his last two.

#10. Rose Run Kurt – if he can stay flat, he’s a major threat. He was the bettors choice at this level in his last two starts. I am worried about his post 10 start because he doesn’t leave well and it might be a repeat of his November 26 race line.

Race 6

#4. Gracie Montana – will be looking for a repeat performance tonight, staying at this same class level. Zeron is back on her leaving from post four and she will likely be the favourite going into the race. She is beatable but she also did win 12 from 25 starts last year.

#6. Smokin N Grinin – has won at this level a few starts ago for her debut for trainer Tony Montini. They same sort of trip will likely occur tonight as MacDonell likely wont take back and be near the front. It will all come down to the final quarter if she can hold off a late challenge from Gracie Montana.

Race 7

#4. Siddall – got beat in the final strides to Rods Famous Ribs (post 6) for new trainer Casie Coleman. He has been a popular candidate lately switching barns on a regular basis. He shows terrific gate-speed which will likely be tested tonight for driver Mark MacDonald.

#6. Rods Famous Ribs – driver Simon Allard gave this horse a text book drive last week after enjoying a two-hole trip. The same sort of trip might occur tonight as I imagine he and Siddall will likely be leaving. I think it will come down to who gets the better trip.
