This weekly feature offers a look back at the best Standardbred races and/or performances of the week at Woodbine.

#5 – Monday, May 2; Race 11 – Ml Gambler has made his return to Woodbine a winning one after spending two years racing on the smaller circuits.  Chris Christoforou drove the half brother of Admirals Express to a four and three-quarter lengths victory. The six-year-old grey gelding paid $6.50 to win.

#4 – Saturday, April 30; Race 3 – Trevor Ritchie won his first race of the 2011 season aboard Ballykeel Mike as the bettor’s choice. The duo went gate-to-wire in 1:55.2 for conditioner Cameron McKnight.

#3 – Saturday, April 30; Race 6; Preferred – Mr Saratoga won this week’s Preferred Pace after a four week layoff. Keith Oliver took the refreshed seven-year-old bay to the lead and didn’t look back. The pair won in gate-to-wire fashion in 1:51 over the even-money favourite, Ideal Race.  Mr Saratoga’s win was his second proud moment of the week. The first was birth of his first foal on Sunday, which was out of the mare Proxahantis. The Anthony Montini pupil was bred to only one mare in 2010.

#2 – Thursday, April 28; Race 5; Ontario Spring Filly Stakes – Worth Remembering bested the 3-5 favourite, Look Cheap, in a 39-1 shocker in the Ontario Spring Filly Stakes final. The three-year-old daughter of Ken Warkentin was bred to trot but now races as a pacer. She paid $80.60 to win.

#1 – Saturday, April 30; Race 4 – The Kevin McMaster trainee Fitzs Z Tam won in a sub 1:50 effort in the first leg of the $100,000 guaranteed pool Pick 4.  The 11-1 longshot came from off the pace to win by two lengths in 1:49.4, the fastest race of the week. Luc Ouellette and the four-year-old gelding clocked a :26.1 final quarter.  He paid $24.90 to win.
