Tuesday, September 19 – Race # 2 Presentation – Barbara’s Race
We are honoured to have Barbara Webster with us for tonight’s race presentation. Barbara was a Wireless Operator in the RCAF Women’s Division and was stationed “overseas” in Newfoundland before it was part of Canada. Although she has lost friends and made many sacrifices, she has always shared a love of life, a deep commitment to Canada, and a wonderful sense of humour.
She is also an excellent bridge player, a technology geek and last month celebrated her 104th birthday! Barbara will be performing the salute tonight to begin the RCMP Musical Ride!
Thursday, September 21 – Race # 2 Presentation – Liam’s Mission
For tonight’s race presentation we have Liam Wilson who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when he was only 3 weeks old. When he started kindergarten, it was his idea to create a children’s book to help his friends understand his disease. ‘Liam, Strong as a Tree.’ In his own words, the book explains why he couldn’t run as fast as his friends, why he had to go down to the office for oxygen, why he needed extra help. Most importantly, it explained that he was really no different from any other kid.
He has written his second book and has a booth inside the grandstand. $5 from every book sold goes to SickKids Foundation and $5 goes to John Tavares Foundation. Liam will be performing the Salute tonight to begin the RCMP Musical Ride.
