Inside Track for February 7-8

February 9, 2026

A look at some of the top highlights from the past weekend of racing at Mohawk.

Family Outing

Ron and Brett MacDonald posed for a family photo in the winner’s circle after guiding veteran gelding Bettor Than Spring to victory in the fourth on Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

The father-son trainer-driver duo had the 11-year-old Bettors Delight pacer thoroughly prepared for the $22,000 contest, as Bettor Than Spring, with Brett in the race bike, led gate to wire for the one-length score.

The bay, bred by Winbak Farm and owned by Perry Burke of Grosse-Ile, Quebec, is now within $30,000 of the $1 million career earnings milestone (252: 66-50-37; $973,233).

At 4-1 Saturday, Bettor Than Spring paid $10.50.

Day at the Beach

Trainer Carmen Auciello had his fingerprints all over the tenth on Saturday night with a one-two finish from trainees Hasselhoff (4-1) and Moving On Over (2-1).

The 4-year-old pacers were in lockstep from the outset, with Moving On Over taking command early while Hasselhoff trailed closely.

It was Hasselhoff, however, who powered by his stablemate down the lane, en route to a 1 ¾-length triumph.

Hasselhoff’s first victory of the year came in just his second start under Auciello.

The 4-8 Auciello exacta paid $36, while Hasselhoff paid $10.

Conduct Becoming

Safe Conduct was on the top of his game in Sunday evening’s $40,000 Open Trot. Confidently handled by Bob McClure, the son of Archangel made his first trip to the winner’s circle in 2026, courtesy of a 1 3/4-length score in 1:54.4.

Trained by Camilla Christoforou for owners Irvann Holdings Inc., and Charalambos Christoforou , the seven-year-old brown gelding is now 12-16-11 from 59 career dashed and has earned $560,260.

Bred by Banjo Farms and Charalambos Christoforou, Safe Conduct returned $5 for the win.
