Leading lady

Pulling off the 34-1 upset in Saturday’s third at Woodbine Mohawk Park was anything but small potatoes for Barb Lahey.

The 4-year-old daughter of Big Jim–Stonebridge Loyal showed tremendous grit and resolve en route to the 1 ¾-length triumph with Daryl Thiessen in tow.

Trained by Michael Kwietniowski, who co-owns the bay pacer with Arthur Rey, Barb Lahey is now 2-4-1 with nearly $85,000 banked across 35 starts.

She paid $71.10.

Command performance

It was a banner start to the four-year-old Graduate Series for Ayeaye Captain Deo, who with Bob McClure in the race bike, captured the first pacing fixture in a career-best 1:47.3 at 25-1.

The dazzling 1 ¾-length triumph in race nine on Saturday night at Mohawk was the third from six starts this season for the son of Captaintreacherous–Oceania, who stands at 10-5-7 with over $410,000 in prizes from 33 lifetime starts.

Trained by Garry Merner for owner Gino Toscani, Ayeaye Captain Deo paid $52.
