MILTON, September 15, 2018 – Nirvana Seelster denied Lazarus N a rebound victory with a huge coast-to-coast 1:48.1 victory in Saturday’s $34,000 Preferred at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The seven-year-old Bill Budd trainee was blasted to the lead by driver Trevor Henry and posted fractions of :26.3, :54.1 and 1:21 before powering home in :27.1 for his eighth win of the season. Lazarus N finished second, beat two-lengths. The Jimmy Takter trained six-year-old left from post-seven and settled in fourth. Driver Yannick Gingras angled Lazarus N to the outside nearing the half and grinded away first-up on the final turn, drawing to within a length and three-quarters of the lead at the third-marker. Nirvana Seelster had no quit in him pacing down the lane, as Lazarus N had to settle for the runner-up finish. Owned by Bruce Davy, Nirvana Seelster just missed matching his career-mark of 1:48, which he took last season at Mohawk Park. The fan-favourite, who surpassed $1 million in career earnings last week, has now earned $208,170 in 28 starts this season Nirvana Seelster and Lazarus N were the only two-horses in Saturday’s nine-horse field that competed in the $600,000 Canadian Pacing Derby on September 1.
