What They’re Saying – Maple Leaf Trot & Canadian Trotting Classic Night

September 14, 2017

CAMPBELLVILLE, September 14 – Over $2.1 million will be on the line Saturday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, as the $684,000 Canadian Trotting Classic and $593,000 Maple Leaf Trot headline a stacked card.

Saturday’s card also features the $385,000 Elegantimage Stakes and $256,000 Milton Stakes.

Check out what some of Saturday’s participants are saying heading into the big night in the collection below.

John Butenschoen – Trainer of Bills Man and Dover Dan in Canadian Trotting Classic

– On Corey Callahan’s decision to take Bills Man

“Corey (Callahan) made no ifs, ands or buts about it that he was staying with Bill’s Man. I was not surprised that he did but I thought he might talk about it, since Dover Dan was very good in the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes final and he was equally as good as in the elimination.”

Corey Callahan – Driver of Bills Man in Canadian Trotting Classic

– Immediately after winning both CTC eliminations, Callahan named which horse he would drive

“I’ll likely stick with Bills Man. I think he’s the fastest of the two, even though (Dover Dan) went a bigger heat tonight, I think just pure speed wise, Bills Man is just a little bit quicker.”

David Miller – Driver of What The Hill in Canadian Trotting Classic

“I like my post. He’s handy about leaving, so I’ll probably leave and try to get a good spot. He races better when I get him involved early.”

Scott Zeron – Driver of International Moni in Canadian Trotting Classic

“The easy plan is to take back and sit and then hopefully get a trip. I haven’t left with him since before the Hambo, and sometimes it’s not like flipping a switch to get them to leave.”

Paul Reid – Trainer of Dancer Hall in Canadian Trotting Classic

“He was a little sick the start before [his elimination], so we were hoping he would be sharp enough and he was; Doug [Mcnair] drove him great. He’s coming out of the [elim] well—right now he’s the sharpest he’s been all year. It seems like we have the soundness issues under control and now, with the eight hole, we’re going to need a little racing luck.”

Yannick Gingras – Driver of Hannelore Hanover in Maple Leaf Trot

“She likes the track no doubt about it. She’s a big track mare…she’s a big strong mare, she likes to stretch her legs and she seems to like (Mohawk) a lot.”

Frank Antonacci – Co-owner and Trainer of Mambo Lindy in Maple Leaf Trot

“I think he’s coming in as sharp as anyone in there, as far as current form. I wouldn’t want him sitting on my back turning for home. He knows how to go by horses in the stretch, so if he’s anywhere in striking distance I would be surprised if he’s not moving forward.”

Mark MacDonald – Driver of Pure Country in Milton Stakes

“I think this game is all timing. I caught her at the right time. She was kind of in a four-year-old slump and I got on her right when she was getting on a good roll and we’ve been a good roll together.”
