Inside Tracks for April 26-27

A look at some of the top highlights from the past weekend of racing at Woodbine.

Danner double

Trainer Kelsey Danner trainees had a starring role in Saturday’s Star Shoot Stakes. Brindi (IRE), under Sofia Vives, took all the spoils in the $125,000 event for 3-year-olds, while stablemate Listen and Learn rallied to finish second. It was the first stakes score for Brindi (IRE) in what was her first race in Canada.

One-two punch

The Woodbine dynamic duo of jockey Pietro Moran and trainer Kevin Attard added some more success stories to their winning playbook. Highlighted by an impressive score with Mansetti in Sunday’s $125,000 Woodstock Stakes, the duo teamed up to record four wins together – Pietro won five races – over opening weekend.

That’s neat

It was smooth sailing for Whisky N Ice in Saturday’s second race. The 4-year-old daughter of Old Forester lived up to her 1-5 odds, putting on a show in the maiden race for fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up. Leo Salles had the dark bay ahead by eight lengths at the stretch call before crossing the line 12 ¾ lengths ahead of their closest rival.

Stay tuned

The Grade 3 $150,000 Whimsical Stakes Presented by Crown Royal is set for Saturday, May 3. The $100,000 Thorncliffe Stakes is the feature on Sunday’s card. Post time for both days is 1:05 p.m.
