Inside Track for May 3-4

A look at some of the top highlights from the past weekend of racing at Woodbine.

Flight path

Earhart (FR), under Rafael Hernandez, was outstanding winner of Saturday’s $150,000 Whimsical Stakes (G3) Presented by Crown Royal. The striking grey, owned by LNJ Foxwoods and trained by hall of famer Josie Carroll, was ridden to the 5 ½-length victory by champion jockey Rafael Hernandez. Jaime Roth, who oversees her family’s stable, took to X immediately after the win. Part of her post read, ‘LOVE YOU SO MUCH BEAUTIFUL!!!’

For the record

Patches O’Houlihan, Canada’s reigning Horse of the Year, made his first start of the 2025 one for the record books in Sunday’s $100,000 Thorncliffe Stakes at Woodbine. The 5-year-old son of Reload out of the Silent Mare (JPN) mare Maythefourthbwithu cruised to a four-length score under Sofia Vives. Bred and owned by Frank Di Giulio, Jr. and trained by hall of famer Bob Tiller, Patches O’Houlihan stopped the teletimer in 1:02.28, which eclipsed the previous mark of 1:02.62 set by Arzak on April 17, 2022.

An all-Chircop curtain-closing exactor

Trainer Steven Chircop closed out Sunday’s 10-race card by going one-two in the final race. First-time starter Our Lady took all the spoils – she won by 6 ¼ lengths – n the six-furlong sprint over the main track, while stablemate Vintage Ring finished second. A $1 Chircop exacta paid $46.05.
