Sheri Riddoch Handicaps Race 7 on Sunday at Woodbine

October 30, 2026

Here’s to hoping that everyone has a very successful Breeders’ Cup weekend. If not, we try, try and try again, right? After all, that’s what us horseplayers do! The weather still looks to be holding for this weekend, which is such a blessing as next week looks very rainy. We have a classy field of 10 veterans lined up to go a route on the grass, so let’s take a peek at a few:

Sunday, Race 7

Top Selection: #6 Kekoa 5-2

He has been the model of consistency this season, rounding out the exacta five times from seven starts. The problem is four of those were runner-up finishes. The horses that have bested him though are the well-travelled Eyes on the King from the Casse outfit, and Ciunas, who just won the Overskate in his first effort since joining the Miguel Clement barn. Regular pilot Fraser Aebly will be hungry for a victory and maybe the added ground will be the key for him this time out. Dependable gelding by Reload will need to be mindful of his stablemate Weller Green (who I find surprising at the 5-1 price and expect many of these morning line odds to change come post time), as he will be a big threat down the lane and could give the CDP (Catherine Day Phillips) barn a 1-2 finish.

Wildcard: #4 Saugeen 12-1

Lightly-raced gelding by solid turf sire Mendelssohn, tries the grass for the first time in his career. He was a late starter to the races debuting as a 4-year-old in March down in Florida, before breaking his maiden over the dirt at Keeneland next out. He wasn’t successful against stakes competition but he was up against Paramount Prince and Runaway Again, who are really in a league of their own on the synthetic. Apprentice rider Douglas is listed to ride, so he gets the 5-pound weight advantage against his more seasoned rivals, and he has two wins from six starts for Josie Carroll this meet. This fella could be very dangerous if he gets left alone on the lead, but obviously has a few questions to answer.

Longshot: #3 Running On Time 20-1

3-year-old colt has yet to contest a race over this surface, and is coming off his worst performance since joining the De Paulo barn this winter. Son of American Pharoah will have no easy task against older competition, but maybe he will prefer the wider, sweeping one-turn distance on the outer course as opposed to going a two-turn mile on the inner like in the Toronto Cup. He was second to Immortalized early on this season who is a two time stakes winner in 2026.

The Play: $10 win on #6 Kekoa, if we get 4-1 or higher, $2 exacta 6,10/4,6,7,8,10= $16

Good luck and safe trips for all.
