TORONTO, November 19, 2017 – Win the War powered by the favoured filly Grace and Dignity down the stretch to win her stakes debut in the $100,000 Glorious Song on Sunday afternoon at Woodbine Racetrack. Sent off as the overwhelming 1-5 favourite in the field of six juvenile fillies, Grace and Dignity and jockey Eurico Rosa Da Silva fired out of the gate from post four with Enchanted Tale and Sunny Singh duelling to their inside well ahead of the pack. As they raced down the backstretch in the seven-furlong sprint with the wind at their backs through fast fractions of :21.90 and :44.38, Grace and Dignity forged ahead while Patrick Husbands had Win the War moving up into contention outside of the fading Enchanted Tale. Win the War took over command in the stretch and then drew off by almost a dozen lengths to stop the clock in 1:21.52. Grace and Dignity settled for the runner-up role. “I just kept my eyes on Eurico,” said Husbands, commenting on his early three-wide stalking position in the race. “Down the back, they were going pretty quick and she was doing it pretty relaxed until the inside horse came up inside of me and she grabbed on to the bridle. She was doing everything easy. “I went by Eurico so easy, but I didn’t know how much horse he had. So when I went by him so easy, I tried to jump his filly hoping that his filly didn’t come back. At the end of the day, my filly drove away.” Win the War’s trainer, Mark Casse, added to his meet-leading win totals, notching his 17th stakes victory and 89th overall this year at Woodbine. A $700,000 Fasig-Tipton yearling purchase bred in Kentucky by Tada Nobutaka, the War Front-City Sister filly is now undefeated in two lifetime starts for owners Gary Barber and John C. Oxley. She is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Dixie City. Win the War was the 9-2 second choice in the wagering and paid $11.20 to win and $2.70 to place. There was no show wagering. She combined with Grace and Dignity ($2.10 to place) for a 5-4 exacta worth $22.70. Perfection Cat edged out Star Hunter in a photo finish for show completing a $1 trifecta of 5-4-1 worth $24.45 and a $1 superfecta of 5-4-1-2 worth $96.35.
