Let’s ‘Dance’
Uphill Dance, trained by Rachel Halden, and ridden by Emma-Jayne Wilson, made an impressive debut on Saturday, notching a 1 ¼-length win in the sixth race. The daughter of Tonalist-Stormy Below, owned by Up Hill Stable, paid $12.40 for the win.
Second time’s the charm
Outlaw Kid, under leading rider Kazushi Kimura, made his second start at Woodbine a winning one. After a sixth in the Highlander Stakes (G2T) on July 1, the George Waver trainee came with a spirited stretch run in Saturday’s $150,000 Vice Regent Stakes, to take top prize in the five-furlong inner turf feature.
Sunday stakes feast
The Mark Casse trio of Conman, Lifetime of Chance and Eyes On the King finished one, two, three, respectively, in the $100,000 turf Hamilton Stakes on Sunday. Owner D.J. Stable LLC saw their silks cross the wire one-two in the 7 ½ furlong race on the inner turf.
Finding daylight
Gatling Gun was stuck behind a wall of horses in Sunday’s second race, a six-furlong sprint on the E.P. Taylor turf, but jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson found a way to get the 4-year-old dark bay off the rail and to the outside for a dramatic head win. Bred, owned and trained by Barbara Minshall, the gelding paid $24.70 for the victory.
Worth Watching
Grace On the Green lived up to her name in Saturday’s final race, rallying to win the seven-furlong race over the E.P. Taylor Turf Course by a head. The daughter of Giant Gizmo, trained by Jennifer Stein, was ridden to victory by her husband Justin Stein.
Worth Repeating
Kazushi Kimura heaped praise on Outlaw Kid’s impressive late surge that delivered a thrilling triumph in Saturday’s $150,000 Vice Regent Stakes.
“He’s obviously a nice horse. He was ready to go when I swung him out. I was so confident to ride him.”
