TORONTO, September 20, 2020 – Track announcer Robert Geller comments on some of the performances that caught his eye in this regular segment, highlighting horses to key in on for upcoming races at Woodbine. GIANT WATERS (September 6, Race 7, No. 4, 2nd) A bump at the break, a steady into the turn and a wide out stretch drive may well have cost Giant Waters victory in his debut when a powerful, deep closing second to Decimator on the E.P. Taylor turf at seven furlongs. Giant Waters gained well from second-last at the half-mile to get within a length of Decimator, who scored as a first-time gelding, the winner sent out as second favourite on the drop down from maiden special weight to the $40,000 claiming tag. There was good support for Giant Waters at 9-2 and he lost no admirers given the manner of his closing kick. By Giant Gizmo from an Arch dam, the two-year-old Ontario-bred colt roared past the early pacemakers Lil Bit Gangsta and Liars Club to be doing his best work at the finish. Trainer Dan Vella and jockey Emma Jayne Wilson have teamed up successfully this campaign already and Giant Waters look set to bring them further success. THATSMYKINDANIGHT (September 17, Race 8, No. 2, 4th) First-time starter Thatsmykindanight caught the eye with her fourth-place finish in her debut at six furlongs on the main track. The three-year-old filly ran a forward race for the barn of Philip Hall, gaining a narrow lead at the half-mile and staying handy to the pace throughout. At the top of the lane, she remained a winning chance before tiring to finish 3-1/2 lengths from the winner, Tara Dawn. Admittedly, this was not a strong field given the conditions that opened the race up to Ontario-sired maiden fillies and mares who had run in three consecutive $40,000 optional claimers and finished outside the top five for this $25,000 claiming contest. Fact is, there will be more races for these types. A daughter of Point Given, Thatsmykindanight was sent off at odds of 10-1 and ran the best of three newcomers, finishing two lengths ahead of the more favoured debutante, Souper Capacity, in sixth.
