A look at some of the top highlights from the past weekend of racing at Woodbine. Pouring it on Paul Ryder’s Fire and Wine (4-1) submitted a full-bodied effort in Saturday’s $175,000 Ontario Derby (G3) to secure his first career graded stakes victory. The 3-year-old Zeljko Krcmar trainee, who led gate-to-wire in the Breeders’ Stakes last time out, dictated the pace once again en route to a 2 ½-length score under rider Jalon Samuel. A son of Lexitonian–Double Latte (by The Factor), Fire and Wine improved to 4-0-4 from 14 starts ($531,004). The bay, bred by James & Jean Everatt, Arika Meeuse and Robert Marzilli, paid $10.30. After settling off the pace early, the 4-year-old Allison Gryff-Chamska homebred came surging down the lane to reach the wire a head clear. The hard-earned triumph with Daisuke Fukumoto in the irons was the second for Mew N Me from 14 lifetime starts (2-2-3; $132,557). Trained by Alexander McPherson, she paid $26.30. Michael Burns Photography Quality control A daughter of Essential Quality, 3-year-old Quality Ami broke her maiden on Sunday, courtesy of a front-running effort that landed the Josie Carroll trainee 1 1/4 lengths on top at the wire. The homebred for Ivan Dalos (Tall Oaks Farm) paid $11.90 for the breakthrough win at 6 1/2 furlongs over the main track. Quality Ami was ridden to victory by Rafael Hernandez. Quality Ami.
