Creed’s Gold Takes Aim at Seaway Stakes Following Hendrie Triumph

August 19, 2026

TORONTO, August 19, 2026 – A field of eight fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up, including Creed’s Gold, will contest 7 furlongs in Saturday’s $175,000 Seaway Stakes (G3) at Woodbine.

A 5-year-old daughter of Jimmy Creed out of the Fairbanks mare Foxyfromfairbanks, Creed’s Gold is one of three Mark Casse trainees entered. Multiple graded stakes winner Elysian Field, who won last year’s running of the Seaway, and multiple graded stakes-placed Bessie Abott (IRE) are the others.

Creed’s Gold enters her eighth consecutive stakes appearance, and seventh at the graded level, off a second straight Hendrie Stakes (G3) victory. She captured the 6 ½-furlong main-track fixture by 1 ½ lengths on July 25.

“I think that performance was a great example of her versatility, not only her ability to race at different distances and on different surfaces, but within the race itself,” said Kathryn Sullivan, assistant trainer to Casse. “She came from just off the pace with a really nice move and then produced a strong run down the lane.”

Bred in Kentucky by Linda Griggs, Creed’s Gold launched her career with a pair of sixth-place results at Gulfstream, including her debut Jan. 11, 2024, at the Hallandale oval. She broke her maiden that May in a 1-mile turf dash at the Hallandale oval.

Including that breakthrough victory, Creed’s Gold has finished in the top three in 12 of her next 14 starts, including her first stakes victory in the 2025 Seaway. She followed that effort with a win in the Lightning City Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs in February to launch her current campaign.

“Again, I think it’s versatility that comes to mind when you talk about her,” said Sullivan. “She’s raced in a lot of different places and at a variety of distances. She didn’t race as a 2-year-old and after those first couple of starts, everything just kicked in for her. The consistency she’s shown over her career has been extremely impressive.”

Creed’s Gold owns a record of 6-3-3 from 16 starts, along with $516,264 in purse earnings.

“She’s one of those horses where you know exactly what to expect, which is that she is going to put it all out there and give everything she has,” said Sullivan. “She has more distance to run at this weekend and that will suit her well.”

Owned by Kristin Meldahl, who celebrated her first stakes win in last year’s Hendrie, Creed’s Gold was a $25,000 purchase at the 2022 Keeneland Association September Yearling Sale.

Prince Parris is her groom.

Recent works: Creed’s Gold posted a pair of 4-furlong breezes, both in :50.60, over the Woodbine main track on Aug. 8 and Aug. 14.

“Those gave her a good chance to stretch her legs ahead of Saturday,” said Sullivan. “She has that ability and willingness to do whatever is asked for her. She’s like clockwork whenever she’s on the track, mornings or race days.”

Fast facts: Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee, jockey Robin Platts, has a record six Seaway scores. Prospective Dolly won three editions (1991-92 and 1994) of the race that was inaugurated in 1956. Trainer Mark Casse has won the past two runnings of the race, in 2024 with Ticker Tape Home and last year with Elysian Field.

Wagering menu for the Seaway: Includes Rolling Double / Exacta / 0.20 Trifecta / 0.20 Superfecta / 0.20 Pick 3 (Races 7-8-9) / $1 Swinger.
