TORONTO, May 14, 2026 – Reload Raleigh, trained by Barb Minshall for Kevin Drew, will make his first start of 2026 in Sunday’s $100,000 King Corrie Stakes, a 7-furlong main track event for 3-year-olds, at Woodbine. A son of Reload out of the Awesome Again mare Ice Mint, Reload Raleigh enjoyed a fruitful 2-year-old campaign under the tutelage of Minshall, highlighted by a gutsy victory in his stakes debut, the Frost King, on Oct. 19 at Woodbine. Under regular rider Ryan Munger, who will be in the irons on Sunday, the chestnut dug in gamely to repel a rival for a head score in the 7-furlong test for Ontario-sired 2-year-old colts and geldings contested over the Toronto oval main track. “He shows grit – he does have that in him,” praised Minshall. A patient hand from Minshall proved to be the winning game plan last year for the horse who at one point was “a slow learner.” She watched Reload Raleigh finish a head-scratching eighth in his career bow, a 5 ½-furlong sprint over the Woodbine main track on July 6. One race later, the gelding broke his maiden courtesy of a half-length victory at 6 furlongs over the main track on Sept. 14. Reload Raleigh completed his rookie season with a second in the Clarendon Stakes, a 6-furlong fixture for Ontario-bred or Ontario- sired 2-year-olds, on Nov. 23. “He’s matured a lot. He’s gone the right direction in that regard. He’s a lot more focused and he’s a bigger, stronger horse, for sure. He has also learned to settle a lot better, which we are really happy to see.” The Ontario-bred spent the winter in South Carolina before arriving at Minshall’s barn in the spring. “He had a couple months off and then he went down south to Travis Durr. Hopefully, he’s fit enough. He had a little issue when he came back, but he seems to be really good now. We had planned to run a few weeks ago and missed that race, but he looks good, he’s ready and we will see where we are at.” Bred by Jon Hyka, the chestnut was a $14,000 (CDN) purchase at the 2024 CTHS Ontario Premier Yearling Sale. Recent works: Reload Raleigh’s last two works, both at 4 furlongs, came over the Woodbine dirt training track. On May 3, he posted a :49.80 move. One week later, he stopped the timer in :47.20. “He’s training well. Ryan (Munger) worked him last time out. We stalked horses. He did it the right way. We’ve been teaching him to sit and make a run, rather than be part of the pace. We’re hoping to be off the pace a little bit on Sunday. Obviously, we need to see where he is going to fit long term, if he will be able to go two turns. He is out of an Awesome Again mare, so that does give me hope he will go two turns, but you never know until you do it.” Fast fact: The race is named after King Corrie, a two-time (Champion Sprinter in 1991 and 1992) Sovereign Award-winning horse in Canada. Bred and owned by Aubrey Minshall, the son of Bold Ruckus was 10-2-1 from 14 starts. In 1993, the bay gelding won the Breeders’ Cup Super Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, in what was his final race. Wagering menu for the King Corrie: Includes Rolling Double, Exacta, 0.20 Trifecta, 0.20 Superfecta, 0.20 Pick 3 (Races 8-9-10), $1 Swinger.
