Taking to post nine in her professional premiere, the daughter of Independence Hall–Bella Joy veered out leaving the gate but settled shortly after to put herself in contention. Advancing rapidly, the bay bred by Northern Dawn Stables Inc & Sandy Giffen dueled with 8-1 rival Mighty Tanner but ultimately prevailed for trainer Catherine Day Phillips. The 5-year-old bred, owned, and trained by Roger Attfield, was a model of patience in the early going before stepping on the gas and separating from the pack to reach the wire in a course record 2:28.69. The dazzling display over 1 1/2 miles on the bet365 inner turf represented the chestnut gelding’s fifth career victory from 24 starts (5-1-2). Michael Burns Photography Wave of the Wand Tom’s Magic sent the 2025 Canadian Triple Crown season off in style with a gutsy triumph of the $400,000 Breeders’ Stakes on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Woodbine. Sent off as the 3-5 choice in the final jewel of the Triple Crown, Tom’s Magic rode the momentum from a runner-up effort in the 166th King’s Plate into a valiant conquest of the 135th Breeders’ Stakes. Locked in a duel with Borealis Trail, the multiple stakes winning son of Justify–Dixie Chicken fought gamely to reach the wire first by a head.
