Meloni comes from last to dominate Catch a Glimpse

August 15, 2026

TORONTO, August 15, 2026— Meloni came from dead last in a field of 10 to post a dominant victory in the $158,600 Catch a Glimpse for 2-year-old fillies contested over 6 ½ furlongs on the E.P. Taylor turf course on Saturday at Woodbine Racetrack.

Sent off as the 6-5 favourite, Meloni had a bit of a rough start and was gapped last in the early going. But jockey John Valazquez had Meloni in gear and caught the field as Liberty Beach led the group into the turn. Still, Meloni had a lot of ground to make up on the leaders.

At the top of the stretch, she was second last in the field of nine. But, in the lane, the daughter of American Pharoah out of the War Front mare Black Canary took flight and soared past the field en route to a 3 ½-length victory in 1:15.62.

Royal Foxtrot (Fraser Aebly) was second, followed by Mrs D (J. Campos) and Sarayu (Pietro Moran).

Meloni paid $4.70.

It was the fourth win of the day, by that point in the program, for trainer Kevin Attard. Meloni, was purchased for $230,000 at the 2025 Keeneland September Yearling Sale by X-Men Racing LLC and Madaket Stables LLC.

“She was a beautiful filly, athletic filly,” said X-Men’s Donato Lanni. “We don’t really know what we’re doing. We just hopefully buy enough, and something’s going to work, but she was beautiful. She was really fast looking.

“But, the credit goes to Kevin. My job’s easy. I buy them and then I give them to Kevin, and then Kevin’s got to do all the work. We just sit back and watch.”

Meloni is now perfect through two starts. Her $90,000 payday in the Catch a Glimpse puts her earnings at $121,406.
