TORONTO, September 12, 2018 – Millionaire filly New Money Honey headlines Saturday’s $250,000 Canadian Stakes (Grade 2), Presented by the Japan Racing Association, as one of two distaffers in the field that are trained by turf specialist Chad Brown. The Canadian Stakes follows the main event, the $800,000 Ricoh Woodbine Mile, as the afternoon’s ninth of 12 races. First race post time for Saturday’s stakes-packed program is 1 p.m. New Money Honey has earned graded stakes wins in each of her previous years of racing and will look to keep that streak going in her Woodbine debut competing in the 1-1/8 mile stakes race on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course. Owned by e Five Racing Thoroughbreds, the four-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly is a multiple graded stakes winner, with previous top-level Grade 1 scores in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes as a sophomore. She has earned more than $1.4 million in purses while competing in graded stakes for nine of her 11 career starts. New Money Honey won her season’s debut in an allowance race over 1-1/16 miles on the turf before facing Grade 1 foes in the Diana Stakes at Saratoga, where she finished sixth over the same course and distance as the Canadian. (Photo by Chelsea Durand) Brown also trains Inflexibility, a two-time turf stakes winner here last year in the Wonder Where and Carotene, but who has been overshadowed by her stablemates of late. Owned by Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence, the Ontario-bred four-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy was twice a runner-up this year behind stablemates in the Grade 3 Beaugay at Belmont and the Grade 2 Dance Smartly at Woodbine. She tried the Grade 1 level last time out in the Beverly D. at Arlington Park and finished fifth in the race where fellow Brown trainees swept the top three spots. Brown won the Canadian Stakes just two years ago with Rainha Da Bateria. The 2017 champion was Quidura, trained by Graham Motion, who will have a shot at a repeat win with the Sam-Son Farm homebred Mythical Mission. The Giant’s Causeway filly, who was top three in six of her seven stakes last season, joined Motion’s stable for her four-year-old campaign and comes into the Canadian Stakes off a victory in the West Virginia Senate President’s Cup turf stakes at Mountaineer, where she got up by a nose at the end of the mile. Chiefswood Stable’s homebred mare Niigon’s Eclipse has been a model of consistency competing locally on the turf for trainer Rachel Halden. The five-year-old daughter of Niigon won the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes over a mile at the end of May and was a runner-up in the subsequent seven-furlong Zadracarta Stakes after getting squeezed at the break then finished second again in her title defense run in the Victoriana Stakes at a more ideal distance of 1-1/16 miles. The field also includes Nassau runner-up Bletchley from Woodbine’s top stakes-winning stable headed by Mark Casse; Daring Duchess, coming off a victory in the Flaming Page Stakes over 1-1/2 miles on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course for conditioner Michael Marker; trainer Kevin Attard’s Starship Jubilee, who finished third in the Canadian Stakes last year; and Woodbine newcomer Hallie Belle, who was a contender in a pair of recent graded stakes after winning the one-mile Dahlia turf stakes at Laurel Park this past spring.
