Weekend Notables & Quotables (August 12-13)

August 14, 2023

Power Combo

Tripolina, trained by Kevin Attard, owned by X-Men Racing 3, Madaket Stables LLC, and SF Racing LLC, and ridden by Kazushi Kimura, combined to win Sunday’s first race. It was the debut for the 2-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Constitution-Ballykiss.

Art of the Steal

Stolen Money, under Rachel Slevinsky, made it two-straight scores courtesy of a front-end trip in Saturday’s sixth race, a 1 1/16-mile trek over the Tapeta. Trained by Ralph Biamonte and owned by Mary Biamonte, the 4-year-old grey won her previous start, on July 30, when she was elevated from second to first in a 1 1/16-mile race on the inner turf.

Have You Herd?

Me and My Shadow, trained by Mark Casse for D.J. Racing Stable LLC, and ridden by Emma-Jayne Wilson, rocketed down the lane to take all the spoils in the $250,000 Bison City Stakes, second jewel in the Canadian Triple Tiara, Sunday at Woodbine.

Three Cheers

Worth Watching

Malibu Mambo, trained by Mike Doyle, who co-owns with Dura Racing, rode the rail to an impressive win engineered by David Moran in Saturday’s fifth race, recording a 1 ½-length victory in the 1 ¼-mile tilt over the E.P. Taylor turf.

Worth Repeating

Trainer Layne Giliforte, who has over 900 career wins, will send out Touch’n Ride, a Chiefswood Stables’ homebred, in The King’s Plate.

“The thought of being in The King’s Plate is fun. I’m just trying to stay focused and do my job. I never put a lot of thought into it because I never expected to be in this position. I would never want to be in this race if we didn’t have a chance and I truly believe we do. My wife [Dianna] is my assistant, and all our team has been here from day one when I started, so to do this together is amazing.”
