Worth hearing

“Well, I know the first turn is going to be trouble because everyone wants to get in position, but this horse helped me the whole way. After the first turn, when everyone was in trouble, I got a perfect trip and had lots of horse the whole way.”

– Luis Contreras, who rode Conglomerate to victory in Sunday’s $150,000 Valedictory Stakes (G3).

Worth watching

First-time starter Shamans Girl made her debut in Saturday’s $150,000 Shady Well Stakes. Trained by Harold Ladouceur for owner and breeder Stronach Stables, the daughter of Shaman Ghost-Ginger Brew, with Ryan Munger aboard, rallied from last to spring the upset in the six-furlong race.

Worth knowing

The final stakes action of the 2023 season is set for December 9th and 10th. On Saturday, Ontario-sired fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up, tackle 1 1/16 miles on the Tapeta in the $100,000 La Prevoyante. The $100,000 Steady Growth, for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds, also at 1 1/16 miles, highlights Sunday’s card.
