Little Teddy, giant again

Little Teddy roared to her second straight stakes success in the $100,000 Eternal Search, for Ontario-sired fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up, Saturday at Woodbine.

Hungry for more after a commanding 5 ½-length triumph of the Zadracarta Stakes on September 21, the 5-year-old Frac Daddy filly remained patient as multiple stakes winner Olivia Rose and stablemate Lady in Red took charge into the first turn.

Still in third through the half, Little Teddy received her cue from rider Austin Adams around the turn for home and didn’t miss, vaulting ahead for the 1 ¾-length decision.

Trained by Santino Di Paola, for his parents Carmen and Raffaela Di Paola’s York Tech Racing Stable, Little Teddy improved to 4-2-0 through six 2025 starts.

At even-money, Little Teddy paid $4.10.

Gray all day

Gray Dee One broke her maiden in dynamic fashion Saturday at Woodbine, leading the seventh gate to wire under rider Slade Jones for the two-length tally at 30-1.

Sent off as the tenth choice in the field of 12, the roan, bred in Ontario by Spring Farm, seized control into the backstretch and remained unchallenged as her lead ballooned to three lengths into the stretch.

Gray Dee One held firm for the favourable final margin, rewarding a strong ride from Jones.

Now on the board at 1-0-0 from two starts, Gray Dee One, a $20,536 (CDN) purchase by Bruno Schickedanz in 2024, paid $63.40.

Acing the Test

There was no stumping Rapid Test, who put up a valiant fight to claim the $100,000 Overskate Stakes on Sunday afternoon at Woodbine.

Out to improve on a fourth in last year’s edition of the 7 ½-furlong contest, Rapid Test sized-up the field of six early before moving into striking position at the half.

In position to mount a furious push for home at the stretch, the 5-year-old Souper Speedy gelding drove with force to secure the half-length victory at 8-1.

With the win for trainer Catherine Day Phillips and owners Kingfield Racing Stable and Apricot Valley Thoroughbreds, Rapid Test also completed the weekend stakes sweep for rider Austin Adams, who captured Saturday’s Eternal Search with Little Teddy.

Now standing at 5-3-0 from 17 starts, Rapid Test’s second stakes triumph paid $19.40.
