Handicapper and racing analyst Doug McPherson offers his insight on each horse in Saturday’s ninth race on July 19 at Woodbine. Race 9 (5:24 p.m. ET) McPherson’s $20 bet: $5 exactor box 2 with 1, $5 exactor box 2 with 6 Race 9 #1 C My Meister – Got the worst of the head bob when third for $25,000 last time. Draws well and should have no problem staying nine furlongs. #2 Breaking Alone (pictured, Michael Burns Photography) – Strong closing fourth against N2X/$50,000 company on June 1. Gets class relief and should like the extra furlong. #3 Scat Factor – Claimed for $7,500 last year and has had a couple of good efforts on the Fort Erie dirt but looks outclassed in this field. #4 Exude – Still eligible for N2L and has tried longer distances with no real significant improvement; tough to endorse for more than a fringe share. #5 Fighter in the Win – Second-best behind Light the Lamp in the Turf Sprint series on June 29. The third leg of that series did not fill and he now shows up here; likely pacesetter. #6 Really Good – Claimed for $25,000 at Turfway in February and has since been gelded. Has raced well as far as two miles; looks very good if he is ready off of the layoff. #7 One More Brew – Had a four-wide trip from the 12-hole in his only try at this distance on the main track last year. Prevailed in the head-bob over C My Meister last time; contender. #8 Cornwall – A good third against N1X/$32,000 on the inner turf in May but flat at that level on the main track on June 22. Plodder could rally for a small share. #9 Alley Oop Johnny – Finished second between One More Brew and C My Meister last time. Rarely runs a bad one; likely to be tracking Fighter in the Win early. #10 Penner Ash (IRE) – Tracked the pacesetter and proved best to win his $40,000 non-three on June 20. Gets a much tougher task this time. #11 Born to Be King – Non-factor for $15,000 non-two on July 6 and unlikely to be a factor here. #12 El Kabong – A winner at this distance against allowance company at Keeneland back in 2022. Has not done much running since being claimed for $40,000 in February; certainly not incapable; the layoff and post are the questions. Breaking Alone Share This:Share
