How to bet the Woodbine Mile on $50: Molly Jo Rosen

September 12, 2025

A Closer Look at the Field

1-Stanley House ~ he gets good in the summer & the win last out was gutsy, but can he get back2back clean trips?

2-Notable Speech (GB) ~ probably doesn’t need more of a plug beyond “Buick for Appleby in a North American G1” but dude has been consistent all year (& is further flattered by Big Mojo – who was 2nd in the Newmarket G1 two back to Notable’s 5th – winning big last weekend)

3-One Stripe (SAF) ~ not exactly the softest spot for his North American debut but it’s Graham with JohnnyV up so we don’t question the call ~ interesting that there aren’t any gate works on the Form given he’s been prone to not breaking super clean, but if the obviously talented professional miler can get a clean trip, he’s worth the short morning line price

4-Hunt Master ~ love to see a consistent claimer step up against top competition (growing up in SoCal, this is called the Barry Abrams angle because he rightly believed that you can’t get a cheque if you aren’t in the gate so why not take the shot) ~ interesting to see a small barn drop the claim slip then drop him into this spot, but he’s zippy out of the gate so should ensure there’s a solid pace

5-Wyoming Bill ~ gets blinks back on & Frankie Dettori shipping north of the border after crazy good flying finish in the G2 King Edward last out ~ he’ll absolutely run his race but he’s such a closer that he needs lots of racing luck to be able to get to the wire in time for the win picture

6-My Boy Prince ~ Lezcano gets back aboard which is an encouraging sign, but he’s definitely more comfortable sprinting

7-Naptown ~ love to see a Maryland shipper (and jock!) in the mix ~ steps up in class looking for his 3rd straight win and he’d be riding a five-race win streak if not for that pesky race three-back

8-Win for the Money ~ has definitely racked up the frequent flier miles with 21 starts at 8 different tracks (and his 5 wins have come at an impressive 4 places) ~ they have to be hoping Husbands can break the Mohaymen gelding out of the 3rd-itis slump but I don’t wonder if slightly softer company would help

9-Gas Me Up ~ carefully managed gelding is looking for his 3rd straight win and even the 5th to start the year wasn’t all that bad, plus they got Prat to keep the call off the big victory in the prep but also there’s a tiny nagging question if that was a fluke or if he really belongs at this level

How I’m spending my $50 in wagering budget:

$2 WPS on 5 (so $6 total)

$1 Double in Race 8 using 9 / 2-3-5-9 ($4)

$.20 SuperBox using 1-2-3-5-9 ($24)

$.20 TriBox using 2-3-5-9 / 1-2-3-4-5-9 / 1-2-3-4-5-9 ($16)
