TORONTO, November 15, 2019 – The 2019 Woodbine Thoroughbred meet is coming down to the homestretch with just one month left to go before the December 15 finale.
Sitting atop the leaderboard with 155 wins and more than $8.5 million in purse earnings, Eurico Rosa Da Silva is in position to claim his sixth Woodbine title as top jockey during his final season of racing. He has extended his leading margin to 21 wins over Rafael Hernandez (134) thanks in part to a pair of six-win days during the past month.
Leading the way on the trainers side, Mark Casse currently boasts 84 triumphs at the 2019 meet with Norm McKnight nine wins behind in second-place with 75. Counting a dozen stakes among his stable’s win total, Casse has amassed nearly $6.3 million in purse earnings. He first topped the Woodbine trainer standings in 2002 and maintained a 10-year reign from 2007 to 2016.
Chiefswood Stables leads all owners for earnings having accumulated more than $2.2 million in purses, courtesy of horses like multiple graded stakes winner Tiz a Slam and the promising filly Cool Shadows, who won the Princess Elizabeth last month. Bruno Schickedanz is the win leader with 41 first-place finishes.
With the most wins among horses, Entourage Stable’s Pink Lloyd is a perfect five-for-five in stakes action at the Woodbine meet. The Robert Tiller trainee has been nominated to the Grade 2 Kennedy Road Stakes, scheduled for Nov. 23. Meanwhile, Ricoh Woodbine Mile champion El Tormenta, who headed to Florida after wrapping up his 2019 campaign with a sixth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, is the richest with $894,600 earned at Woodbine this season thanks in large part to his stakes success for trainer Gail Cox and owner/breeder Sam-Son Farms.
The 133-day Thoroughbred meet continues this afternoon, with first race post time set for 3:40 p.m.
