With rain in the forecast for Sunday, I decided to take a crack at the Glorious Song Stakes as opposed to a turf race. Interesting dynamics are at play, as pace looks hot with six of the seven entrants breaking their maidens in gate-to-wire fashion. Adding to the drama, the track tends to play even more speed-favouring with any sort of precipitation, so get tied on as it should be a sizzler. Sunday Race #8 Top Selection: #7 Lamirada 1-1 She….is….fast. There is no doubt about it as she fired a monstrous 86 Beyer on debut!! 2yr old filly by army Mule was then thrown to the wolves in the G1 Natalma on the grass where she was sent off as the favourite checking in a tiring 7th. Few things to consider out of that race – she was pushed on the lead the entire way, was her first time racing over the turf, and she only lost by a couple of lengths, so I don’t think her effort was horrible. Plus, Mo Cookie who finished behind her, came back to run a corker in the Cup and Saucer finishing second to Medaglia d’Oro colt, Canada. She should appreciate going back to the synthetic surface and the other speed just may not be able to go with her. Wildcard #1 Cattrall 5-2 Also comes out of the G1 Natalma and was the thorn in Lamirada’s side on the front pushing her every step of the way. It took its’ toll on her however as faded to finish towards the back of the pack. She gets an inside draw this time (post 10 last out), as she makes her synthetic surface debut while adding first time Lasix, so a couple of new things for her. Her sire Corniche only has 74 offspring on the ground and has an 18% strike with 2yr olds (2-1-1-0 in synthetic sprints so far). She’s interesting and could bounce back in a big way, however the abundance of pace in the race is a concern. Longshot #5 Epic Affair 8-1 Closing type should get the perfect set up. However, the biggest question for her will be the Tapeta, and will the other front runners soften up Lamirada enough for her to be caught? Juvenile filly has been improving with each start and held her own against stiff competition in the Catch a Glimpse, 3rd place finisher Mrs D just took the Algonquin by a neck over the heavily favoured Bolton Landing winner Go For Launch, both who may be headed to the Breeder’s Cup at Keeneland. Also important to note – she finished ahead of Mo Cookie in that event, and we know what she just did as mentioned above. Nothing is a given with these youngsters, and she could just mow them all down late. The Play: $10 WP on #5 Epic Affair Good luck and safe trips for all. Share This:Share
