TORONTO, July 19, 2021 – Woodbine’s Track Announcer Robert Geller has the best view of the racetrack from his booth on the sixth floor! Check out which horses have been catching the eye of Robert and are worth circling down for upcoming races at Woodbine Racetrack. ESSENTIAL BELLA (July 10, Race 5 No 7, 4th) After stumbling soon after the start in her debut at four and a half furlongs, Essential Bella was always up against it from that point on. The winner, Fun Cool raced handy before challenging runner-up Sassywithattitude who remained on the pace throughout. As the pair engaged in their own battle through the stretch, third and fourth place finishers, American Gamble and Essential Bella respectively, each caught the eye, making up considerable ground on them both. American Gamble almost threatened for second with Essential Bella a mere length back in fourth. Essential Bella swung wide upon turning for home but then switched toward the inside in deep stretch, covering more ground than most throughout this short $40,000 maiden claimer for 2YO fillies all but one of whom were first-timer starters. Essential Bella had worked well prior for the hot barn of William Tharrenos, beating home stablemate Dixiewish by several lengths. On the strength of this performance, Essential Bella will be well-supported next time out again and may well deliver the goods especially with this run under the belt and the prospect of more ground. BLACK SUN (July 11, Race 11 No 9, 3rd) From the moment Black Sun appeared in the post-parade, I was interested in the 3YO first time starter. Despite his long odds of 40/1, the Lorne Richards trainee was my pick as the best turned out horse. My hunch was not misguided as Black Sun defied his price to finish a closing third, a length and three quarters from the winner, Mr Narcissistic with Passthepuddinpleaz in second. Black Sun was seen doing his best work at the end of the five and a half furlongs. A son of Silent Name from a Broken Vow dam, Black Sun should be suited by more ground and will have derived benefit from this $40,000 maiden claimer for ON-sired runners in which he beat home nine others, eight of them having previously run. The barn offers value and may well again under similar conditions Share This:Share
